What are microforms?

The University of Saskatchewan Library holds over 3 million items in microform format.

What are Microforms?

Microforms are a storage medium for documents including books, articles, newspapers, government documents and others. The format requires magnification to read. There are reader/scanner/printers on the 1st floor and readers on the 2nd floor of Murray Library.

Microforms at the Murray Library include three types:

  • microfilm (rolled transparent film)
  • microfiche (flat transparent sheets)
  • microcards (flat opaque sheets)
