Citation Management Migration Guide

Steps to migrate information from RefWorks to EndNote

The desktop version of EndNote is a more robust system than EndNote basic, which is online only. EndNote Desktop also has unlimited storage space.

Students, staff and faculty at the U of S may purchase perpetual licenses of EndNote Desktop for use at work or at home on their PC or Mac from ICT Acquisitions. The current version of EndNote Desktop is X8. A free 30-day trial of EndNote Desktop is available from the EndNote basic website if you'd like to try it out before purchasing.

1. Open EndNote and select --> Import -- > File from the File menu.

2. Choose your saved file, select the Reference Manager (RIS) import option and import your references. Your references will now appear in EndNote.

3. In EndNote, you can create a new "Group" for each RefWorks folder that you export. Continue in this manner until you have exported all of your RefWorks folders, creating a new Group for each RefWorks folder.
