University Archives and Special Collections: In-Person Research

In-Person Visit

  • It is often a good idea to telephone or e-mail before making a visit. Staff can then advise on whether a visit is necessary, send relevant finding aids, or advise about other institutions which may have the information required. This will also allow us to maximize your time with the material by getting material ready ahead of your visit. There are also some periods of time during the day where retrieval of materials is unavailable.
    • Retrieval of materials are available:
      • 10 - 10:30 am
      • 11 am - noon
      • 1 - 2:30 pm
      • 3 - 4 pm
  • Researchers may also obtain detailed information from our available online research tools.
  • Reproduction of material identified during your visit is usually possible.
  • We will ask you to leave your coat and bags at the coat rack in the Reading Room. For the sake of preservation of our rare and unique materials, no food, drink, pens or highlighers may be used (pencils are available in the Reading Room). Further information about appropriate handling of our material is available from reference desk staff.
  • You are welcome to bring your laptop or other devices for note-taking, but please note that self-serve digitization is generally not permitted.
  • For researchers coming from out of town, we have prepared an overview of university and local amenities.
