Academic Integrity: A Library Guide for Students: Welcome

About this Learning Resource

Academic Integrity is the cornerstone of all the work you will do at university. This library-created tutorial is an open-access learning resource that introduces the key ideas, values, and responsibilities associated with academic integrity.

Important
This tutorial is not the same as the Campus Academic Integrity course in Canvas.
  • The Canvas course requires self-enrolment with your NSID and is the only version that generates a certificate of completion. If you need a certificate to meet a course requirement, please complete the official Academic Integrity Campus Course in Canvas.
  • This Library resource is open, meaning it is freely available to all students, faculty, and staff. No login or enrolment is required. It does not issue a certificate, so it cannot be used as a substitute in courses where the official Canvas course is required.

Use this open Library tutorial to complement your learning, explore key concepts at your own pace, and strengthen your understanding of academic integrity as you part of your coursework or as you work toward meeting your course learning outcomes.

The International Centre for Academic Integrity identifies six core values to help guide your work, ensuring that it is fair and honest, and received in good faith. These core values (honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility, and courage) shape the way we learn, create, and engage with others. They provide an important foundation for the learning you will do and for the fair assessment of the work you produce.

Our Learning Charter

While every college and discipline contributes to the academic community differently, they all share the same set of values for academic integrity. These values are echoed in our Learning Charter and include

  • Being able to locate, understand, evaluate and use information effectively, ethically, legally, and with cultural appropriateness.
  • Developing and applying appropriate skills of research, inquiry, and knowledge creation and translation.
  • Embracing responsibilities to oneself and others in ways that are authentic and meaningful.

By completing the learning acitivities in each module, you will better understand your responsibilities in academic work, your rights if suspected of misconduct, the procedures that support fairness, and the services available to help you succeed.

Modules in This Series

There are three short, self-paced and interactive modules, each taking about 45 minutes to complete:

  1. Understanding Academic Integrity
    Explore the values that guide academic integrity and why they matter.

  2. Understanding Your Rights and Responsibilities
    Learn about student rights, responsibilities, and the procedures that govern academic misconduct.

  3. Developing Skills for Academic Success
    Develop academic and research skills that help prevent misconduct.
