This module invites you to consider the deeper, more nuanced question: Is Generative AI (GenAI) beneficial or detrimental to your learning?
Many students express concerns about overreliance on AI and the impact it can have on their learning. GenAI can be helpful, for example, when brainstorming, organizing ideas or breaking down complex topics. But overreliance can reduce your engagement, confidence and independence as a learner.
In this module, you’ll learn to recognize when GenAI is helping you strengthen your learning and when it may interfere with your ability to think critically, remember key ideas, or stay focused.
By the end, you’ll have practical strategies to use GenAI in balanced, ethical ways that support your learning while helping you build the confidence and independence needed to succeed at university.
Prerequisite: If you have not used a GenAI tool such as MS Copilot or ChatGPT before, consider completing the Understanding GenAI and the Interacting with GenAI modules first, before completing this one.
This module connects to the Student Learning Pursuit - Learn Actively, which requires students to learn independently, experientially, and collaboratively; to engage in self-evaluation and reflection; and to take personal responsibility for their learning.
