Citing Tables or Figures

When reprinting or adapting tables and figures from a source, use a note underneath the table or figure.

For example:

Table 1
Restaurants by Canadian City

Business City No. Establishments
Restaurant Vancouver 50
Restaurant Montreal 94
Restaurant Edmonton 80

Table or figure note format:

Note. Brief explanation of the table or figure. From (use if reprinted) or Adapted from “Title of Article,” by Author first initial. Author second initial (if applicable). Author last name, Year, Journal Title, Volume(issue #), p. xx. (DOI or Web Address if available). Copyright statement if applicable. 

Then put an entry to the entire work in the reference list.

If you do not reproduce the table or figure in your paper, format the in-text citation like normal.

Table note example: See Note under “Sample factor analysis table

Figure note example: See Note under “Sample Line Graph
