A Possible Strategy for Searching for Information

You will have your own strategies for searching for information for your assignments but here is one possible approach:

  • First, use the resources you find under under the Find Journal Articles and Find Books tabs on the left to find good quality academic literature that will provide the theoretical background, support, and examples for your assignment.
  • Second, you could use the resources in the Government Information tab on the left and the research guide called Grey Literature & Google to find practical guides for your particular method and topic. TIP: Add words such as toolkit, guide or guidebook, manual, handbook or protocol to your search terms to locate practical guides.
  • Third, you might, if appropriate to your assignment, use the CBCA or Canadian Major Dailies journal and newspaper databases and the resources in the Maps and Statistics tabs to enrich your analysis and ensure that it is as up to date as possible.
