This module replaces the GenAI module found in the 2018 Academic Integrity Tutorial. The 2024 Academic Integrity Tutorial does not contain a module about GenAI specifically. Please use this one instead.

Welcome to the Understanding Generative AI Tutorial!

Whether you are new to generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) or have some experience, this 1-hour tutorial will introduce you to the basics and help you understand how to use GenAI tools responsibly and ethically. By the end of this tutorial, you should be able to:

  • Recognize the fundamental principles and applications of Generative AI.
  • Identify the limitations of Generative AI and the ethical dilemmas associated with its use in academic settings.
  • Adopt strategies to prevent academic misconduct that may arise from the inappropriate use of Generative AI in your studies.
  • Evaluate the impact of AI-informed decisions on your personal and academic growth, your peers, and society.

If you require proof of completion, complete the quiz at the end. It will help you assess your understanding and generate the certificate.

Technical Assistance

Please note: This tutorial focuses on the ethical and responsible use of GenAI tools in academic settings. It does not provide instructions about how to install and use these tools. Microsoft Copilot is a USask approved GenAI tool that is available to all students, faculty and staff. For technical assistance with Copilot or any other approved tool, please contact IT support.

Time: This introductory tutorial takes less than an hour to complete.
