English as an Additional Language: Welcome

Welcome

Welcome to the English Language and Skills Support Guide!

This guide aims to help you master your English and language skills and find your academic voice, while balancing the needs of your intended audience.

Most university programs in Canada are taught in English, and expect that students can speak, read, and write at a high level in English. If you speak a dialect or English as an additional language (EAL), you may at times feel overwhelmed by these expectations. However, the university has supports in place to help you develop your language skills and improve your confidence to help you meet your academic goals.

Whether you are a student with English as an additional language, or a student wanting to refine your academic English language skills, the resources within this guide have been carefully created with you in mind.

Use the navigation bars on the left to explore the guide.

If you have further questions or require more specific help, book an appointment, use the Writing Help Centre, attend one of our upcoming workshops, or view a workshop recording.

Land Acknowledgement

As an immigrant woman, I am grateful for the opportunity to live, study and work in these lands situated on Treaty 6 Territory and the Homeland of the Métis. I work, daily, toward paying respect to the First Nations and Métis ancestors of this place and reaffirming our relationship with one another.
