The Authorized Textbooks Database provides information on textbooks and other materials authorized by the Saskatchewan Department of Education for use in elementary and secondary schools from 1884-1992. The database also provides information on individual titles and editions available in the Education & Music Library Catalogue.
“Authorized” textbooks are identified as those approved for use in the schools of Saskatchewan by the Department of Education. Two primary sources are used to identify “authorized” texts, they are: Gerald James Langley’s 1944 Master’s thesis, entitled The programmes of study authorized for use in the North-West Territories to 1905 and the province of Saskatchewan to 1931, and the text books prescribed in connection there with, and the Saskatchewan Department of Education annual Circulars from 1930 onward.
