Law Resources: The Basics: American

What is it?

American case law is similar to those from the Commonwealth countries in that they not only apply the law but also make the law. American courts follow precedents from earlier cases and also make decisions which future cases follow. Commonwealth decisions are rarely followed, but U.S. courts often cite pre-Revolution cases when discussing the evolution of judge-made common law principles applied to current cases.

Collection (available in print and online)
