What is GIS?

Geographic information systems (GIS) are computer based frameworks used to store, organize, manipulate, analyze, and visualize geospatial data. GIS methods and technology are used widely in scholarly research, and are the foundation of popular applications like Google Maps.

Maps and cartographic resources

GIS can be used in conjunction with other cartographic resources like maps and aerial photographs.
