Research Grant Administration: Post-award Resources for Faculty: Roles and responsibilities

Research Services and Ethics Office

The RSEO will

  1. notify applicants of award.
  2. request the the Controller's Office set up a research fund (will do the initial paper work).
  3. ensure compliance with university, provincial, and federal agencies and their policies.
  4. review and negotiate contracts.
  5. ensure appropriate certifications (e.g., ethics) are in place and maintained.
  6. authorize transfer of funds to and from other institutions (i.e., sub-transfers).
  7. work with researchers and FA for extensions when necessary.

Researcher

A researcher's roles and responsibilities include:

  1. applying for ethics approval, if necessary, (Funds will not be released to the researcher until Ethics Approval has been received.)
  2. meeting with the Financial Analyst (FA) for orientation on fund management and providing a detailed budget
  3. notifying the Dean's Office and RF of award and ensure that the Dean's Office has a copy on file
  4. recruiting and hiring research assistants (RA) if applicable
  5. ensuring that there is office space for the RA allocated by the Director of Finance & Physical Resources and that the RA has proper system access if needed
  6. regularly reviewing fund balance and expenses
  7. working with Financial Analyst to close out the research fund
  8. submitting a final report to agency (if required).

Human Resources Advisor

The Human Resources Strategic Business Advisor will

1. Support researchers with hiring research assistant (including help with preparing the job posting and letter of offer).

2. Dean’s Office will post the job on the Student Employment & Career Centre website and other department/college website when targeting a specific group of students.

3. Support drafting the letter of offer once a candidate has been selected by the researcher.
