Considerations

When preparing for your research travel, here are some questions that you will want to consider as you make your plans.

Is your passport up to date? You can find more information about renewing your passport at the Canadian Passport Help Centre.

Do you need a visa? For visa information about specific countries, consult the Government of Canada's Travel Advice and Advisories website.

Do you need inoculations? For specific vaccination information, consult the Government of Canada's Travel website.

Do you need travel insurance? Travel insurance for USFA members covers 100% of emergency services and 80% fo the costs for referred services—up to a lifetime maximum of $3,000,000. (Note that there are countries where this insurance is not available.) If you are unsure of your coverage, please call Allianz Global Assistance before your departure. You should also review your USFA Health Plan Summary for all conditions, limitations and terms of coverage.

Common Expenses

Make sure you budget for the average cost of an economy flight; you don’t want to budget too little and not have enough to cover the flight. You can also budget for flight cancelation insurance.
