This guide was conceived as an internal resource for the Library to help those presenting and developing content use the various technology in different and effective ways.

WebEx Polls: General Tips

The Polling Panel must be visible to do anything with polls. To enable this: View > Panels > Manage Panels > Add Polling to Current Panels

To save time in a workshop, create your poll questions (questionnaires) in WebEx before your session starts. Save the file(s), and then open the file(s) during the actual workshop. 

Creating Polls Prior to Starting a WebEx Meeting

  1. Start a test meeting
  2. Display the polling panel:
    • Go to the View menu, select Panels > Manage Panels. In the Available panels section, select Polling, then click the Add >> button, then OK.
  3. Create a poll with the desired questions (see next section “creating a poll questionnaire”)
  4. To save your poll questions, you can either:
    • Go to the File menu, then select Save > Poll Questions.
    • In the Polling pane, click on the Save icon (downward arrow icon)
  5. Choose a location to save the poll, enter a file name, then click the Save button.
  6. In your next meeting, enable the polling panel using step 2 above.
  7. To open the poll file (.atp) you can either:
    • Go to the File menu, then select Open Poll Questions > Select the previously created poll, then click the Open button.
    • In the Polling panel, click on the Open icon (file folder) > navigate to your poll file (.atp) > Open Poll

Creating a Poll Questionnaire

Open the polling panel: View > Panels > Manage Panels. On the Manage Panels page, select Polling from the Available panels and click Add. Then, click OK.

Windows:

  1. In the Question section, select one of these question types:
    • To create a multiple-answer question, select Multiple choice > Multiple Answers.
    • To create a single-answer question, select Multiple choice > Single Answer.
    • To create a text question, select Short answer.
  2. Select New, and then type a question.
  3. In the Answer section, select Add, and then type an answer. To type another answer, select Add.
  4. The question and answers appear in the Poll Questions area.
  5. To add more questions, repeat above steps.

Mac:

  1. Open the Polling panel in the event.
  2. Select the Add a Question icon and then type the question.
  3. Select the Add an Answer icon and then type the answer.
  4. To add more answers, repeat step 3.
  5. To add more questions, repeat step 2.
  6. To change the question type, select the text Click here to change question type that appears under the specific question and then do one of the following:
    • To create a multiple-answer question, select Multiple Answers.
    • To create a single-answer question, select Single Answer.
    • To create a question that requires a text answer, select Short Answer.

Starting a Poll in WebEx 'On The Fly'

Windows:

  1. Select View > Panels > Manage Panels to add the Polling panel to your meeting.
  2. On the Manage Panels page, select Polling from the Available panels and click Add. Then, click OK.
  3. Select the question type from the drop-down list in the Question section of the Polling panel.
    • Select Short answer if you want a poll with a type in short answer.
    • Select Multiple choice - Multiple Answers if you want a poll with multiple answers from a list of possibilities.
    • Select Multiple choice - Single Answer if you want a poll with one answer from a list of possibilities.
  4. Click New to create a new question.
  5. Type your question in the text box that appears and press Enter. In the text box that appears, type an answer to your question and press Enter.
  6. (Optional) Repeat this process for as many questions and answers that you want to add.
  7. Click Open Poll.

Mac:

  1. Select View > Panels > Manage Panels to add the Polling panel to your meeting.
  2. On the Manage Panels page, select Polling and click Add. Then, click OK.
  3. Go to the Polling panel for each question and answer that you want to create.
    • Click the Add a Question icon to add a new question.
    • Click the Add an Answer icon to add a new answer.
  4. Select the question type from the drop-down list in the Question section of the Polling panel for each question that you create.
    • Select Multiple Answers if you want to select multiple answers from a list of possibilities.
    • Select Single Answer if you want to select one answer from a list of possibilities.
    • Select Short Answer if you want to type in a short answer.   
  5. (Optional) Repeat this process for as many questions and answers that you want to add.
  6. Click Open Poll.
