EndNote X7: Getting Started

A quick guide to acquiring, installing, and setting up EndNote to work on your computer

Set Up EndNote

After you have installed EndNote, you should configure it to do the following:

  • Integrate with the USask Library catalogue so that you can quickly and efficiently search the collection, as well as;
  • Retrieve full text articles at the click of a button.
  • (Optional) Connect with MEDLINE and CINHAL to assist with retrieving citations and full-text articles.

The following boxes will guide you through each of these steps.

Integrate with the USask Library Catalogue

  1. On the Menu bar, click Edit -> Connection Files -> Open Connection Manager.
  2. In the list, scroll down till you find the entry U Saskatchewan. Select this and click the Edit button.
  3. In the new window, change the fields so that they resemble this image:

  4. On the left list, click Connection Settings and ensure the information matches the following image:

  5. You're done! The new information should automatically save when you close the windows. EndNote will create a new connection entry called "U Saskatchewan Copy"; ensure this is checked off on the list of connections.

Retrieve Full Text

  1. On the Menu bar, click Edit -> Preferences. From here, select Find Full Text from the list on the left-hand side.

**Note: You may want to disable the option to Automatically invoke Find Full Text on newly-imported references if you are working with large numbers of references.
