Research Guide for Library Faculty: Ethics

Overview

The University requires that all research conducted by its members conform to the highest ethical standards in the use of human subjects, animals and biohazardous materials. Any research or study conducted at University facilities, or undertaken by persons connected to the University, involving human subjects, animals or biohazardous materials must be reviewed and approved by the appropriate University of Saskatchewan Research Ethics Board (REB) or Committee.

The Behaviour Research Ethics Board (Beh-REB) is responsible for the review of all ethics applications involving human subjects that include social, behavioural and cultural research using methods such as interviews, surveys, questionnaires, observations, psychological, social or behavioural interventions, audio and/or video recording.

If you need assistance, please contact the Behavioural Ethics Facilitator, 966-2084, ethics.office@usask.ca

Approval Process for Ethics

The University of Saskatchewan Research Services and Ethics Office requires the Library Dean's approval on ethics applications prior to submission for compliance review and institutional approval.

If you have any questions, contact Katya.

Release of Research Funds

Note: Research funds will not be released to researchers until they have received the necessary ethics approval. However, researchers can request that Research Services and Ethics release some research funds for work that does not require ethics certification (e.g., literature review, ethics application development, survey development, etc.).
