Research Mentorship First Year Program Plan

Step 1#: Initial Mentorship Meeting (mentee, C-EBLIP Director, Research Facilitator)—1.5 hours

  • provide overview of the Research Mentorship program
  • discuss expectations, goals, objectives
  • discuss of roles—possible mentors (committee make up)
  • outline Faculty Recruitment and Retention Program

Step #2: Preparations and Development

  1. Mentee will provide C-EBLIP Director with a list of possible mentors within 1 month of the initial mentorship meeting.
  2. C-EBLIP Director will contact possible mentors and establish the Research Mentorship Team for each mentee.
  3. Research Facilitator will schedule the full mentorship meeting once mentors have been confirmed.
  4. Mentee will draft and submit a research plan to the Research Facilitator for feedback and guidance within 2 months of the initial meeting.
  5. Mentee will work with the Research Facilitator to refine the research plan.
  6. Mentee will submit the research plan to all Team members 2 weeks prior to full Team meeting.

Step #3: Full Mentorship Meeting (mentee, mentors, C-EBLIP Director, Research Facilitator)—2 hours

  • discuss expectations, roles, and priorities of mentee and mentors
  • outline and discuss research plan
  • provide research support, advice, and direction
  • set next meeting and topics

 

Roles and Responsibilities

Roles & Responsibilities

C-EBLIP Director will

  • establish team membership.
  • set stage for expectations for mentees and teams.
  • chair and facilitate all mentorship team meetings.
  • keep brief notes.
     

Research Facilitator will

  • coordinate and schedule all mentorship team meetings.
  • ensure that each team meets at least twice a year.
  • assist in the development of a research plan/vision.

 

Mentee will

  • develop and revise a 5-year program of research plan/vision.
  • meet twice yearly with Research Mentorship Team.
  • attend/participate in semi-annual workshops hosted by the Provost and Vice-President Research.

 

Mentors will

  • provide critical research advice and support as mentees develop and implement their research plans and visions.
  • assist with developing an evolving 5-year research plan.
  • assist mentee with developing a research network.
  • discuss the importance of work/life balance.
