[2024] Academic Integrity Tutorial: Summary

Learning Supports and Services

Being a university student represents a remarkable opportunity to grow and learn. This third module focuses on developing an academic integrity skillset and getting to know yourself better as a learner. By practicing metacognition, you can assess your learning needs, set achievable goals, and implement effective strategies to meet those goals.

Most students, especially in first year, take courses from a range of subject areas, each with its own unique set of assessments and academic integrity expectations. Recognizing that specific skills are associated with different assessments is crucial, as it can lead to varying academic integrity expectations in terms of what they emphasize (e.g., a writing-intensive course might emphasize the importance of proper citation and avoiding plagiarism, while a group project in a science course could focus more on ethical collaboration and division of work among team members). Therefore, it is important to be prepared to ask for clarification when expectations are unclear or when you need guidance on how to meet those expectations.

The following table provides a list of some of the services and supports that students commonly use to develop their skills. In addition to academic skills support, there are ways to access coursework and personal support as well.
