JumpStart Your Learning
Online Tutorial
Specifically Designed with First-Year Students in Mind
Welcome and congratulations on your admission to the University of Saskatchewan. You are about to embark on a challenging and exciting learning journey. Through study, research, and connecting with students, faculty, and staff, you will discover new and exciting things about yourself and the world around you. As you are likely aware, learning in university will differ from learning in high school and this tutorial will help you to make the adjustment.
A major difference between your experience in high school and studying at USask, are the commitments and responsibilities you have as a university student. These are outlined in ‘Our Learning Charter’ which applies to all members of the university community (students, staff, and faculty). It states that to optimize your learning experiences, you are required to
Actively engage in the learning process
These JumpStart Your Learning modules have been designed to guide you as you prepare to meet the challenges and expectations of your first year of university. By completing the tutorial, you will become more confident in your ability to ‘learn independently, experientially, and collaboratively with other students, to engage in self-evaluation and reflection, and to take personal responsibility for your learning’1.
We hope that you will discover new things about yourself, along with tools and strategies that will help you to develop your learner agency and to thrive as both a university student and a member of the scholarly community at USask.
There are three modules associated with this tutorial.
Time Commitment: Each module should take less than an hour to complete.
As members of the scholarly community at the University of Saskatchewan, we acknowledge that we are on Treaty 6 Territory and the Homeland of the Métis. We pay our respect to the First Nations and Métis ancestors of this place and reaffirm our relationship with one another. We recognize that some may be completing this tutorial from other traditional Indigenous lands and ask that you take a moment to make your own Land Acknowledgement to the peoples of those lands. In doing so, we are actively participating in reconciliation as we navigate our time, learning and supporting each other.
